The line begins at a connecting structure beneath Platz der Republik, passes through an underground station at Güterplatz, then rises via a ramp to run at surface level along the center of Europa-Allee. Three stations sit above ground: Emser Brücke/Messe, Europagarten and Europaviertel West. The surface section uses a green track median typical of recent Frankfurt tram extensions.
Funding follows the pattern of other large German rail builds, with the bulk coming from state and federal grants. The city of Frankfurt covers another major share, while the remainder comes from VGF itself. In 2015 the city tasked VGF with delivering the project, leading to the creation of a dedicated company called Stadtbahn Europaviertel Projektbaugesellschaft mbH, later renamed Stadtbahn Entwicklung und Verkehrsinfrastrukturprojekte Frankfurt GmbH while keeping the SBEV abbreviation.
