Frankfurt public sports centers logged 1.24 million visits between January and June 2026, a figure released by the city's Sports and Leisure Department on July 9.

The jump arrives as household budgets tighten and residents look for low-cost exercise options after years of higher living costs. Local authorities have kept entry fees stable at most municipal sites, drawing more people away from private gyms that charge 60 euros or more monthly.

Facility Usage in Key Neighbourhoods

The Sportzentrum Bornheim on Bornheimer Landstraße recorded 312,000 visits, up 25 percent from the same period in 2025. Across the river in Sachsenhausen, the Mainufer sports paths and the adjacent Hallenbad Süd saw combined attendance reach 287,000, with early-morning running groups and aqua classes filling to capacity on weekdays. Both sites fall under the Frankfurt City Sports Office, which added 14 new evening slots for strength training this spring to meet demand.

City data also tracked membership at the Niederrad outdoor complex, where annual passes priced at 185 euros sold 4,800 units in the first half of the year. Officials noted that 62 percent of users at these locations are between 25 and 45 years old, a shift from pre-2023 patterns when older adults formed the largest group.
